Morocco 0 - 2 Cameroon, World Cup Qualifying

Cameroon completed a fine recovery after a stuttering start to their World Cup qualifying campaign to reach the finals in South Africa with a 2-0 away win over Morocco on Saturday.

Russia 2 - 1 Slovenia, World Cup Qualifying Play-offs

 Substitute Nejc Pecnik’s late goal gave Slovenia a lifeline in their World Cup qualifying play-off against Russia. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s brace seemed to have put the home side in commanding but Pecnik - only introduced in the 83rd minute in place of Andraz Kirm - pounced two minutes from time for a potentially crucial away goal.

A capacity crowd of 80,000 - which included Russian president Vladimir Putin - had been issued with protective masks to guard against swine flu in the Luzhniki Stadium. (more…)

L.A. 2-0 Houston, Galaxy Wins in OT

Gregg Berhalter and Landon Donovan scored in overtime to put the Galaxy into MLS Cup final with a 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Friday night.

The Galaxy will play in their first MLS Cup final since 2005 in Seattle on Nov. 22 against the winner of Saturday’s Eastern Conference final match between Chicago and Real Salt Lake.Los Angeles will make its sixth MLS Cup final appearance since the league began in 1996. The Galaxy won the MLS championships in 2002 and 2005.
