Over here at the BP_TOW frat house, we have definitely been stepping up our art awareness and creativity game, and we try and recognize the people that we find inspiring. In March, a video hit YouTube that featured Mos challenging Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and others to a battle. Martinez asked him about the video. Mos admitted it was a candid moment in front of friends, but when Mos Def visited Angie Martinez’s New York radio show Tuesday to promote his new album, The Ecstatic, neither had any idea that would be promoting the most spectacular MC battle ever.

After Eminem had his five-month marketing blitz — which saw the gradual release of multiple tracks and a partnership with Fox series “Family Guy” — producer-rapper Dr. Dre appears ready to start receiving similar treatment.
The rap impresario will appear in an ad for a major soda company — one that has some experience with long-awaited albums that can never possibly live up to your expectations. The clip will start airing on national television June 1, Billboard tells us. (more…)

Music industry Web site Hits Daily Double first reported on Tuesday (May 28) that Jay-Z is close to inking a deal with Sony Music for distribution for his Roc Nation banner. According to the report executives for Sony and members of Jay-Z’s business team have been spotted in recent weeks both in New York and Los Angeles meeting together to discuss a deal.
