Tuesdays With Nike

I headed over to the LA offices for Nike to talk soccer, lifestyle and my preference for the Air Max 90’s over the 95’s. I gotta say the Nike offices are right up my alley in terms of design and layout, so I felt pretty comfortable hanging out, sharing stories and taking pictures.

Out With The Old

Filed under: Bumpy Pitch, Lifestyle, Pictures

usa

Pictures take up mad space on the hard drive, so I was going through some old ones so I could purge them from the system. Before they go bye bye, or off to be hosted by Flickr, I thought I would post a few here. And with the huge US v Honduras qualifier about to jump off, the support from this light post is even more appreciated.

More photos after the jump.

The Party is Never Over in Vegas…

Even in Las Vegas, apparently, there are limits….

In July, gaming regulators slapped the Planet Hollywood casino with a $500,000 fine for its Prive nightclub’s bad behavior, including “topless and lewd activity” and dumping club-goers in the casino “in various states of consciousness.”

The same month, the Rio closed its Sapphire topless pool, managed by a local gentleman’s club, after authorities arrested 10 people on suspicion of prostitution and drug crimes. Over Labor Day weekend, eight more arrests on similar charges were made at the Hard Rock Hotel’s pool club, Rehab.

It’s all part of a crackdown by authorities on what they see as clubs gone wild. (more…)

Bethlehem Steel - American Soccer History Volume 1

Filed under: Bethlehem Steel, Bumpy Pitch, Culture, Lifestyle

bethlehem-steel

One of our immediate goals with Bumpy Pitch has been exploring the history of soccer in the United States. It’s impossible to go down this path without paying special attention to Bethlehem Steel. Bethlehem Steel was one of the early professional soccer clubs in the United States, and also one of the most successful. Bethlehem Steel played their first professional soccer game in 1907, and in 1913 they introduced the  country’s first soccer field with stadium seating. Dig that, these cats were playing professional soccer, in their own stadium,  in the United States over 100 years ago. Remember that the next time somebody says that soccer doesn’t have a history in the United States. Just like the passion of American soccer fans runs deep, so does our soccer history. We’ve always said that we have to know where we have been before we know where we’re going, and this is a perfect example of that.
