Steven Gerrard and David Ngog Set to Return for Clash with Manchester City

Injured Liverpool pair Steven Gerrard and David Ngog are fit to return for Saturday’s crunch clash with Manchester City. Skipper Gerrard has been hampered for several weeks with a groin injury and in the absence of their talisman Liverpool have suffered damaging defeats to Fulham in the Premier League and Lyon in the Champions League.

Ngog, meanwhile, suffered a broken nose on France Under 21 duty this week. His absence would have been another blow with star striker Fernando Torres already sidelined with a groin problem. (more…)

UH OH!! Rafa Benitez Admits That Fernando Torres May Need an Operation

RAFA BENITEZ’S Kop crisis deepened last night as he admitted Fernando Torres may need an operation.

The Spanish striker is battling a damaged groin and surgery could KO him for two months. Steven Gerrard might also go under the knife on Thursday if a scan on his groin confirms the worst.

Liverpool boss Benitez will play Torres in Lyon tomorrow, despite his injury. (Huh!)

But he said: “We are trying to manage, as he was close to having an operation. Two days after the Fulham game, he is still feeling something. (more…)

Liverpool’s hopes of a revived push at the Premier League title collapsed in spectacular fashion at Craven Cottage where a 3-1 Fulham win made it five league defeats from just eleven games played.

Rafael Benitez grimaced on the touchline as nine-man Liverpool were given a mauling in a humiliating defeat at Craven Cottage. Liverpool defenders Philipp Degen and Jamie Carragher were sent off for reckless fouls and by the end the Fulham crowd were chanting ”Easy, easy” as Liverpool resembled a shambles. (more…)

Teenager Fran Merida netted his first Arsenal goal as Arsene Wenger’s young Gunners beat Liverpool 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. Just back from the Under-20 World Cup with Spain, the 19-year-old former Barcelona trainee drilled in a fine first-half strike as Wenger’s faith in youth was once again justified.
