Director Stanley Kubrick was responsible for a series of jaw dropping films including: Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, 2001, Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut and more.  As the years went on though, the gaps between his films got longer and longer.  What was Kubrick doing?  Jon Ronson of Channel 4 in England gets a peak at the mountains of research that went into the movies, and inside the thousands of numbered boxes…

Julius Carey - Sho Nuff

Sho Nuff, the meanest, the baddest mo fo low down around this town who made people bow down and kiss his converse has passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Julius Carey, who passed at the age of 56, had over 55 acting credits to his name but might be best remembered for his role in 1985’s The Last Dragon.

I remember wanting Leroy Green to whoop Sho Nuff’s ass as a little kid sitting in the movie theaters.  And I’ll never forget catching the bullet with his teeth.

Between The Last Dragon and Breakin, I was a karate fighting / break dancing killa!

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Ever find yourself at the end of summer and you realize that you never took a vacation, your boss is breathing down your neck, money is tight, and all you really want to do is get on a plane and go someplace exotic like Spain and spend a month or two drinking wine, eating fresh food, and hanging out with beautiful and interesting girls new friends all night long? No CGI here, nothing blows up, just a hot cast, a muy caliente Penelope Cruz and a city (Barcelona) which looks amazing.  Recommended.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Via YouTube

“I was born under unusual circumstances.” And so begins Benjamin Button, adapted from the classic 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. A man, like any of us, unable to stop time. We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the twenty-first century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man’s life can be.

Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett

Hell Ride

Quentin Tarantino presents Hell Ride, written and directed by Larry Bishop.

Via The Weinstein Company

Writer/director Larry Bishop takes on a third role as Pistolero, head honcho of the Victors, a group of badass bikers who are out to avenge the murder of one of their members at the hands of the 666ers, a rival gang whose actions live up to their hellish moniker. Along with his cohorts, the Gent (deviously portrayed by Michael Madsen) and the mysterious Comanche (Eric Balfour), Pistolero aims to take down the Deuce and Billy Wings, menacing leaders of the 666ers, but a mutiny looms on the horizon when his commitment to profit is questioned by a few of his fellow Victors. An even larger story unravels when previously unknown information about Comanche resurrects ghosts from Pistolero’s past.

Although there is enough sex, violence, and all-out machismo to keep grind-house fans firmly plastered to their seats, Bishop’s take on the genre strays far from exploitation as he weaves a twisting, multilayered tale of revenge, loyalty, and brotherhood that is brought to life by a superb ensemble cast, with memorable performances by Dennis Hopper, Vinnie Jones, and David Carradine. In the words of Comanche, “The road to hell is paved with anything but good intentions.”
