On the Agogo after the African Nations Cup?

Filed under: EPL, Portsmouth, Transfer News

They’re never the prettiest goals that Junior Agogo puts in the back of the net, but he finds the ol’ bulge alot. After a great showing down in Accra with his Black Stars, Agogo’s name might end up on the back of a jersey in Portsmouth.

So there’s this Premiership player that falls asleep

For the last four days everyone in the Barclay’s Premiership has been waiting to hear what the hell went on in the transfer of Portsmouth’s Benjani to Manchester City. The truth behind the mess started with Benjani falling asleep at the airport and then the next flight being canceled and the following delayed. Yeah, this was some crazy shit and actually forced the transfer fee down, but if Benjani hits 75 starts in his Man City tenure, Portsmouth would receive a total of 7.5 million pound.

Defoe in for England

Filed under: English National Team, Fabio Capello, Friendlies, Portsmouth

With Emile Heskey and Gabby Agbonlahor both going down in their last weekend match before England camp, Jermaine Defoe was called back into the mix for the “Don” Fabio Capello.  Guess getting that transfer in and scoring on your debut for Portsmouth wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

The hero at Pompey

Filed under: Chelsea, EPL, Harry Redknapp, Portsmouth

After Nicolas Anelka (a fellow transfererer)  slipped in a Joe Cole knock down off a counter attack from a no call hand ball of Claude Makalele,  Fratton Park faithful were rightfully worried.  It would be only 9 minutes later that Jermaine Defoe would start his dream debut, starting with a long ball from keeper David James, flicked on by Milan Baros and coolly slotted in the 64th minute.  While the game ended in a 1-1 result, ol’ Harry was definitely happy with his new look squad after Chelsea’s record was 47 wins in 50 games after taking the lead.

It’s done and it only took 9 million pound. Jermaine Defoe’s personal terms are in the 50,000 pound a week area and you can just imagine what Harry’s doing to celebrate after signing him for the second time in his career, the first being West Ham back in ‘99.

Benjani leaving Portsmouth?

Filed under: EPL, Harry Redknapp, Manchester City, Portsmouth

Manchester City have reportedly agreed to a fee with Portsmouth for the services of Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari. So far this season Benjani has bagged 12 goals for Harry Redknapp, who has gone on record saying “Benjani couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn before this season”. While the belief of the transfer fee is around 5 million pound, Benjani is solely responsible for Zimbabwe’s training camp for African Nations Cup Qualification by paying for his country’s training/housing in France and being the 3rd countryman to play in the Premiership following the likes of Bruce Grobbelaar.

UPDATE  - Time ran out for Man City in the hopeful signing of Benjani, meaning that he will stay with Portsmouth.

Kanu suffers knee injury

Nigerian and Portsmouth forward Nwankwo Kanu has his own club versus country row after suffering a knee injury in warm ups before Nigeria’s loss to the Ivory Coast.  Kanu was able to play just around 60 minutes before being substituted and the Fratton Park execs want Kanu back in Pompey to diagnose the injury before it gets any worse, but Kanu has repeatedly stated his desire to stay in the team and try to get fit.
