Following a defeat to Burnley in the promotion playoff to return to the EPL, Steve Coppell has resigned as big boss man at Championship side Reading.

“Following our exit from the play-offs, I feel it’s the best thing, for both the club and myself, for me to leave,” said Coppell, who spent a little over five and a half years in charge at the Madejski Stadium after replacing Alan Pardew in October 2003. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Reading manager and would like to thank everyone connected to the club for the support I have received.”

Marcus Hahnemann 2

There’s never been a question of desire when Marcus Hahnemann’s around.  You knew what he wanted, what he was willing to do and it was always very clear because he’d step up to the plate and answer the tough questions.

But I don’t think he’s too sure about his teammates at Reading.

Marcus Hahnemann

With all the focus turned towards Fulham USA and their match tomorrow against Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth, the Daily Mail has a great read about Reading’s Marcus Hahnemann.

A big win at Derby for the last match of the season might not even make a difference with Fulham holding the a +6 goal differential over Reading, even though both teams could be even on points tomorrow evening.

Fulham up or down?

Emerse Fae

Ivory Coast and Reading midfielder Emerse Fae has been diagnosed with Malaria after his return from the African Nations Cup in Ghana. Although the wishful thinking Steve Coppell thinks his summer signing will be back in a week, Fae is certainly facing a spell on the sidelines as he was already taking the anti-Malaria tablets during the tournament.

Leave it to the filthy American

After a great term last season, Reading has found itself near or around the mouth of the Relegation in the Barclay’s Premiership and this does not sit well with American keeper Marcus Hahnemann.  The outspoken net minder has gone on record wondering out loud which of his teammates have the “balls” to handle the pressures of life in the top flight.
