What’s Calderon gonna say about this one?

Filed under: Antonio Cassano, F-ed, Real Madrid

On loan Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano was sent off this weekend against Torino and will most likely be facing a pretty long stretch on the sidelines. After apologizing only a week ago to Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon for his remarks about having sex before Real Madrid matches, Cassano (who’s contract is still owned by Real Madrid) took off his jersey and threw it at the referee.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say he’ll never wear a Real Madrid jersey again. Just a hunch.

UPDATE - Cassano received a 5 game suspension

That’ll leave a mark

Real Madrid has fined midfielder Mahamadou Diarra one month’s salary (300,000 Euro) for returning late from African Nations Cup duty with Mali.  Although they didn’t even make it out of the first round, Real Madrid formally sent a letter stating he would be fined and Diarra will have ten days to respond.

With the former Lyon player already making his intentions clear about leaving since Bernd Schuster has taken over and Gago, Guti and Sneijder preferred, it’s hard to imagine who could afford such a staggering price tag that will be placed, as Madrid paid 40 million Euro for the player in 2006.

Three on the trot for Real Madrid

Filed under: Barcelona, La Liga, Real Madrid, Videos

Losing three games in a row and four out of the last five games is unacceptable for a team like Real Madrid. Sunday’s contest saw Arjen Robben score what looked to be a goal, only to have it disallowed while celebrating in the corner. Getafe took full advantage of the call, counterattacking 6 on 2 and finishing what would be the decider in a 1-0 contest that saw Madrid lose their first game at the Bernabeu since February 2007.

Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Levante at the Nou Camp put them now only two points behind Madrid in the La Liga title race with the advantage looking to sway towards the team in form.

Another contract for life

Filed under: Guti, Real Madrid, WTF

His wife might have just left him because of a picture scandal that saw him kissing another man, but times are still good for Real Madrid’s Guti.  Just last week President Ramon Calderon signed both Raul and Iker Casillas to lifetime contracts with the club and today it was announced that Calderon offered the same deal to the talented left footer.  Must be nice!

Are you allowed to call the Ref a Homer?

Filed under: Bernd Schuster, Champions League, Real Madrid

After losing 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday in the first leg of their Champions League Match to Roma, Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster was not happy. So unhappy it seems that he had a go at his German compatriot, referee Herbert Fandel calling him a “Homer”. Calling him a homer is so classic that FIFA better not fine or suspend him, just on the basis of using such a great word. By the way, Fandel was the ref for last years Champions League Final so if you don’t think this comment will have repercussions, think again.

Still pissing people off

After an ugly 18 months at the Bernabeu, Italian Antonio Cassano was sent out on loan to Serie A’s Sampdoria for the 2007-08 season. The Peter Pan of Bari, known for his outlandish personality, decided to unleash it once again this weekend when boasting about his sexual escapades before Real Madrid’s matches. Needless to say that Madrid President Ramon Calderon was none too pleased.

Remember that song Eto’o sang?

Filed under: Barcelona, Champions League, La Liga, Real Madrid, Samuel Eto'o

When Barcelona won La Liga back in 2005, Samuel Eto’o was ecstatic. So ecstatic in fact that when he was given the microphone to address the crowd, the former Real Madrid player (1996-2000) couldn’t help himself and had a go not only at his former club, but their back sides as well while declaring Barcelona champions. Today that Spanish Soccer Federation fined the Cameroonian hitman $17,607 for actions that were deemed “very grave” and “initiating violence”.

Eto’o and his song can be found around the 2:15ish mark.

Foreva, foreva eva, foreva eva?

Filed under: Iker Casillas, La Liga, Raul, Real Madrid

Raul and Iker Casillas declared their love today for Real Madrid after signing life contracts on Valentines Day. While left out of the Spanish National Team set up despite being one of the hottest goal scorers in the country, the 30 year old striker signed another extension to keep him at the club until 2011. First choice for both Club and Country, Casillas signed an extension that will keep the 26 year old at the club until 2017. Both have an automatic One Year extension clause that will trigger when the player competes in 30 official matches in one season. No word on the amount of money, but I can only dream.

The first true Galactico

Filed under: Alfredo Di Stefano, Real Madrid

The legend of Real Madrid, Argentinian Alfredo Di Stefano, aka The Blond Arrow will be honoured Sunday at The Bernabeu by Fifa president Sepp Blatter,Uefa president Michel Platini and the likes of Beckenbauer, Bobby Charlton and Eusebio. Throughout his illustrious career Di Stefano scored an estimated 893 goals, was a 2 time European Player of the Year and was just surpassed as Real’s all time goal scorer in Europe by Raul. La Saeta Rubio was the first legitimate Galactico for Madrid at a time where he was the victim of a very high profile kidnapping which saw a movie made about the crime.

Real Madrid drops 7 on Valladolid

Filed under: Real Madrid, Spain, Videos

I was watching this game yesterday and Ray Hudson was going mad! The best part of the demolition was the fact that Arjen Robben actually played AND scored AND didn’t fall over every time the camera was on him.
