Disallowed Manchester United Goal Off Corner

Filed under: Goals, Manchester United, Refs, Videos

The referees were dead wrong on this one as Wayne Rooney put the ball down, put his foot on it and rolled it onto the field of play.

Cristiano Ronaldo had two goals disallowed against Chelsea yesterday, this one and the breakaway he scored when he was wrongly ruled offside.

Funny thing about this corner is that we on the U.S. Olympic Team used this successfully throughout the 3 1/2 years leading up to the 2000 Olympics in Australia with Clive Charles. An even better story is that when we used it against Brazil down in Brazilia, the ref and linesman pulled the same thing and because Landon was in the Ryan Giggs role, the television announcers and newspaper writers absolutely killed him.

They were asking if the Americans even knew the rules of the game and poor Landon’s picture was plastered all over the place because of it….

Development Academy - Referee Spotlight

We usually don’t here that much about what happens behind the scenes with referees, but I had a very interesting conversation with Director of Referee’s Paul Tamborino this weekend on Sunday.

I’m hoping we’re on the right track and think we just might be.

One of the most high profile Premiership Referees has come out swinging after the FA’s Respect campaign has seemingly failed throughout the course of the early party of this season.

47 year old Steve Bennett has been an English Premier League Referee since 1999, an accredited FIFA Referee from 2001 - 2006 and the first of what may become many Referees to have their say in the press over the treatment received so far this season, both on the field and in the media.

Frank de Bleeckere Admits His Mistake

Filed under: Celtic, Champions League, Manchester United, Refs

Frank de Bleeckere

Belgian referee Frank de Bleeckere, the man in the middle of last weeks Champions League “Battle of Britain” between Manchester United and Celtic has come out publicly and admitted that he and his assistants got it wrong when watching the replay afterwards, namely the two goals scored by United’s Dimitar Berbatov.

Via DailyExpress

Assistant Alex Verstraeten said: “I admit to the mistakes, but we also ask for understanding. Offside decisions are the hardest to judge. We are only human flesh and blood.  This is the first time that we have made a mistake in 52 international matches.”

“It is our bad luck that the mistakes came at goals. It is no consolation that Manchester United would have won without these decisions. Some players argue their case in front of us, but no Celtic player protested.”
