Carlos Bocanegra and Rennes continue their climb up the Ligue 1 table after a beating Paris St. Germain at home, taking them into 2nd place while 1st place Lyon only managed a 0 - 0 draw against bottom of the table Valenciennes at home.
Next match for Rennes is on the road against 11th place Caen, December 6th.
The win takes Rennes into 6th place with 19 points, just 5 behind Ligue1 leaders Lyon.
Bocanegra went to full 9o, picking up a yellow in the 16th minute.
With all the hoopla surrounding today’s Uefa Super Cup Final between Manchester United (Champions League Winner) and Zenit St. Petersburg (Uefa Cup Holders) on Fox Soccer Channel at 11.30am (West Coast), the 2008/09 Uefa Cup First Round draw might have gotten lost in the shuffle.
And while every team’s am is to get to the final at Instanbul’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on May 20th, pushing through the first home (September 18th) and away leg (October 2nd) will be the first test.

According to L’Equipe US National Team Captain Carlos Bocanegra has signed a three year deal with Ligue 1 side Rennes, but I’d hold off as an official announcement has yet to be made by the club or the player (whom I spoke with).
Stade Rennais FC finished the 2007/08 campaign in the 6th spot, 21 pts behind runaway leaders Lyon and 17 pts behind second place Bordeaux.
I would be extremely excited to see an American International playing in one of the most athletic leagues in the world and think this could be a great fit for a player with Bocanegra’s abilities.
With guys like Wiltord, M’Bia, Ekoko and Sorlin, Rennes is a team that could definitely push for a Champions League spot, one they missed out on by just a goal in the 2006/07 season.
