Jeremy Menez

The player that’s become the closest heir to the Zinedine Zidane throne, Monaco’s Jeremy Menez could be on his way to Roma after a phone call to his agent confirmed the 21 year old has an agreement and is taking the physical required today.

The belief is that the move will bring Monaco somewhere in the region of 14 Million Euro, but the real question for American fans is how will this affect Freddy Adu and his integration into the Monaco fold?

Check out the genius that is Menez after the Jump….

Philippe Mexes’ Wife Car-Jacked

Philippe Mexes

Philippe Mexes worst fear swhile away at Roma’s pre-season preparations were realized after getting the call from his wife that their car had been car-jacked WHILE their daughter was in the backseat asleep.

Mexes’ wife had just gotten home and carried their son into the house when the thieves jumped into the Mercedes and took off.

The car was recovered just down the road at a Pizzeria parking lot with the doors left wide open and their daughter unharmed in the back seat.

Roma has announced the Mexes was allowed to leave for a few days to tend with his family, but this is a perfect example of the set of worries players have to consistently think about during the lifetime of a professional athlete due to the travel and commitment of the sport they love.

Amantino Mancini

Alessandro Faiolhe Amantino Mancini or better know as just Mancini is on his way to Inter after the Special One paid just over 12.5 Million Euro for the 27 year old.

The Brazilian flourished under both Fabio Capello and Luciano Spaletti at Roma due to Mancini’s positional versatility that can see him as a right back, right midfielder, winger or creative midfielder.

Mancini scored 40 goals in 150 Serie A matches while representing Brazil 12 times between 1999-2004.

Riise Heading To Rome?

Filed under: Liverpool, Roma, Transfer News

UPDATE - AS Roma’s deal for John Arne Riise is done as the payer will earn 2.8 Million Euro per year in a 4 year deal as Roma will pay 5 Million Euros to Liverpool over the course of four installments.

The breakdown gets even more complicated as Roma will have to pay certain amounts dependent on how many Champions League matches and player appearances Riise makes with the club.

John Arne Riise

Norwegian left back John Arne Riise seems to be on his way to AS Roma after Liverpool accepted the 5 Million Pound transfer bid from the Serie A team.

Anyone else thinking the 5 Mil for of the 27 year old Riise and 14 Mil for Xabi Alonso is going straight to the kitty for a new Gareth Barry bid?

Roma will be without it’s best player at Old Trafford as Serie A’s Roma takes on Premiership leaders Manchester United Wednesday in the Champions League return leg.  The Quarter Final clash was already going to be difficult for a Roma squad that lost at home 2-nil to United last week.

The Gap + Banana Republic = AS Roma?

Filed under: Bumpy Pitch, Roma, San Jose

Totti

Chatterers are chattering that American John Fisher is looking to buy AS Roma of the Italian Serie A. Who is John Fisher you ask? Well let’s start off by saying the dude is loaded. And when I say loaded, I mean he is a billionaire. Now that we have that out of the way….John Fisher is also the son of Donald Fisher who is the founder of The Gap (which also owns Banana Republic and Old Navy). John is also responsible for putting up a serious amount of money as an owner in the Oakland A’s baseball team and he is also a part owner of the San Jose Earthquakes.

News reports out of Italy say that Mr. Fisher is preparing to buy out the $580 million in debt that Roma has and that there is also talk of a new stadium. Is any of this true? I don’t know. We’ll file this one under the “rumor” category and go from there.

As owners of our own clothing company (Bumpy Pitch…ahem, plug), I find it very inspirational to see that a fellow American clothing guy is already part owner of an MLS team and looking to expand his soccer interests. I’m pretty sure we would / will do the same thing. If by chance you are reading this Mr. John Fisher, give us a shout. We would love to talk soccer and apparel.
