With Roy Keane out, the Mirror is reporting that the Sunderland gig is going to either Gordon Strachan or big Sam Allardyce.   Other names allgedely in the mix…Alan Curbishley, freaky deaky Steve Mclaren and David O’Leary.  Who do you think would be the better choice?

Injured Jones Called Back In T&T Frame For Cuba Match

Filed under: FIFA, Injuries, Jack Warner, Kenwyne Jones, Roy Keane

Kenwyne Jones

Trinidad and Tobago have recalled injured Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones back into the 18 man World Cup Qualifying squad ahead of their November 19th Group A clash in Port of Spain against Cuba, which probably won’t sit well with Sunderland boss Roy Keane considering the last time he and FIFA Vice - President / Trinidad and Tobago Special AdvisorJack Warner squared off.

With Jones missing out on the Black Cats’ 2 - 1 loss against Portsmouth at the weekend after re - injuring his knee in training on Friday (the same knee he just came back from ligament damage) and ruling him out of Wednesday’s Carling Cup clash against Blackburn, Keane and the medical staff are taking no risks as the club has sent him to see a specialist.

Keane’s Go At Media Pundits

Roy Keane2

Never one to hold back, Roy Keane has had a go at the men behind the microphone during Premiership matches over the criticism of Arsene Wenger during the last week.

Via DailyMail

Keane said, “There was a debate this week about Arsene Wenger. How crazy is that? What that man’s done for the game - and we’re giving these people air time. I wouldn’t listen to these people in the pub, and yet they’re on television constantly, explayers, ex-referees getting interviewed giving out their opinions. I wouldn’t trust these people to walk my dog.”

“They’re brainwashing people. People say it’s good for the game. It’s not good for the game, interviewing people about Arsene Wenger after what that man’s done for English football. It’s amazing.

“Will Arsene Wenger be remembered in 100 years’ time for what he has done for football? Bet your life he will. Will these people on the television be remembered for what they’ve achieved? None whatsoever.”

Keane Fines Three Players Over Late Night Out

Filed under: Fines, Roy Keane, Sunderland

It was a costly decision to head over to the Tyneside to celebrate Newcastle’s Obafemi Martins’ 24th birthday party for Sunderland’s Djibril Cisse, El - Hadji Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda.

After an internal investigation of the trio being spotted out and about until the early hours of Friday, just 48 hours before Sunderland’s 5 - 0 loss at Chelsea, Keane laid down a financial punishment.

Keane said: ‘We hope players behave in a certain way they have had a fair hearing and its has been dealt with.’

Roy Keane - “Jack Warner is a Clown”

Filed under: Dwight Yorke, FIFA, Jack Warner, Roy Keane

roy-keane

One thing about Roy Keane is he always calls it like he sees it. No matter what, ya gotta respect that. So when Jack Warner publicly released a letter Keane had written him in regards to Dwight Yorke, Keano naturally had a go at old jack.

“The man’s a clown,” Keane said. “He sent me a letter and he was quite happy to give it to the media. I spoke to him on Wednesday and I told him what I thought about him and where I think he should go.

“He is writing these letters and it is always under the Fifa heading just to impress everybody. If he is vice president of Fifa, then God help us.

“People worry about the game and agents and directors of football and managers losing their jobs - we should be worried about people like him.”

I’m sure this is not the end of the Keane v Warner mud sling.  After the jump, check out classic footage of Roy Keane giving it to Patrick Viera.

That Other Ferdinand

Filed under: Anton Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Sunderland, Transfer News, West Ham

Anton Ferdinand

West Ham’s Alan Curbishley has claimed that they have accepted an 8 Million Pound bid from Roy Keane’s Sunderland for the services of 23 year old Anton Ferdinand.

The 6 foot centerback has appeared over 135 times for the Hammers in the Premiership and with his refusal to sign a contract extension, West Ham is seemingly forced to make the move now before potentially losing him for free.

The board have accepted the bid - he’s not renegotiated his contract - and the decision was taken out of my hands.

‘I don’t know where Anton is in terms of signing for Sunderland - but once the club accept the bid it moves on.”image via Img

Cisse’s Agreement In Principle

Filed under: Djibril Cisse, Roy Keane, Sunderland

UPDATE - It didn’t take long for Djibril Cisse to make his mark on his return to the Barclay’s Premiership with Roy Keane’s Sunderland as they beat Tottenham 2-1.

“Cisse has got that physical presence and the pace and we had a feeling amongst the staff that if he got on he could do a bit of damage to Tottenham and he certainly did”, said head boss Keane who gave Cisse his debut 65 minutes into the match.

.Djibril Cisse

Roy Keane and Sunderland have seemingly captured one of the most intriguing players of the 2008 summer transfer window in oft-injured French striker Djibril Cisse on loan from Ligue1 side Marseille.

Cisse, who’s first stint in the Barclay’s Premiership with Liverpool started brightly before snapping his tibula and fibula after being tackled only 19 games into the season at Blackburn, fell out with Rafa Benitez over the Spaniard’s insistence over playing Cisse in a wide role instead of his preferred striker position, which led to his loan and subsequent sale to Marseille.

Should Players Be As Loyal As Clubs Are?

 Roy Keane

I’m always interested when clubs decide to throw out the “loyalty card”, so when a guy like Roy Keane who is the manager of Premiership side Sunderland and the former Captain of Manchester United decides to speak about it, my ears perk up quickly.

Keane, who left Manchester United after being seemingly forced out after giving an interview to MUTV (in which he crushed a few of his teammates and might have gone after Sir Alex’s number 2, Carlos Queiroz)  back in 2005, said: “When a club is finished with you, they get rid. My advice is look after yourself. If you get a chance for bigger and better things, then go for it. I’ve experienced that myself. People question players’ loyalty. I question clubs’ loyalty. It’s a business to them.”

He went on to say,  “If you’re not needed then you can be out of the door in ten minutes, and I’m speaking from experience. Clubs buy and sell players. Clubs sell players sometimes like a piece of meat.”

I’ve got to agree with the way Keaneo delivered this one, based on my own playing experiences alone.
