Ruud van Nistelrooy

Just a day after Manchester United announced that midfielder Owen Hargreaves was flying out to Denver, Colorado to see knee specialist Dr. Richard Steadman, Real Madrid followed suit with Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy.

After the 32 year old was substituted during Madrid’s 2 - 0 Champions League loss to Juventus (the first match he started after missing out on the previous 3 matches because of the same knee), team doctors decided it was best for van Nistelrooy to head back to Steaman, the man who operated on the same injury back in 2000 when he was playing for Eredivisie side PSV.

No timetable has been set for his return.

Van Nistelrooy out, Kuyt in?

Real Madrid’s 2-nil loss to La Liga upstarts Almeria this weekend wasn’t only painful in the ego department, but also the physical.  With news that Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s substitution was met with a severly diagnosed high ankle sprain at halftime, Marco Van Basten must have been the next call knowing that Holland’s friendly against Croatia was off for the hitman.  Question is, who replaces the big man?  Will Dirk Kuyt get the call after being left off the initial roster?
