A Different Look At Free - Kicks Catania Style

Catania - Walter Zenga

Serie A’s Catania unveiled a new look idea during their 3 - 2 win on Sunday against Torino when forward Gianvito Plasmati (Number 16) dropped his shorts, along with two other teammates while standing at the end of Torino’s wall to make it life difficult for Torino keeper Matteo Sereni.

Guiseppe Macscara stepped up, scored and the controversy began immediately for Head Coach Walter Zenga.

Alberto Gilardino Handed 2 Match Ban

Filed under: Italy, Serie A, Videos

Alberto Gilardino

In a controversial move, Italian Football authorities handed Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino a two match ban for “serious unsporting conduct” after Sunday’s 3 - 1 win over Palermo in which the Italian scored a goal with his right hand that went unseen by the referee during a sliding challenge with a defender.

The Serie A’s top goal scorer with 7 to his name in only 7 matches will now miss Wednesday’s match at home against Inter Milan and Sunday’s match at Siena.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini had called for the Fiorentina forward to be issued with a five-game ban, but Zampirini was even more frustrated with the reaction from Gilardino saying, “He even celebrated, incredible.”

Walter Zenga2

Former New England Revolution Keeper/Coach Walter Zenga has done what was thought to be the impossible by keeping newcomers Catania up and avoiding the drop.

With their 1-1 draw against Roma, Catania stayed up with 37 points while Empoli, Parma and Livorno went down to Serie B.

Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic came back from six weeks out because of injury to score 2 goals (17 on the season) as Inter Milan beat Parma 2-nil to take their 3rd straight Serie A Title.
