Spain V Peru

The United States got a good look at their opponent this week as Spain took on Peru in Huelva over the weekend.

Do you see any weaknesses in their starting 11?  Yeah, me neither.

Luis Aragones has left Real Madrid striker Raul off the roster for the upcoming 2008 European Championships despite scoring 18 La Liga goals this season, opting instead to take uncapped Zaragoza forward Sergio Garcia. Raul has not played for Spain since 2006 but still leads the country with 44 Goals in 102 International Matches.

Bojan Krkic was left out of the squad as well after informing Aragones that he was suffering from fatigue after he debut season with Barcelona.

David Albelda was not included due to his troubles with La Liga club Valencia.

Spain has friendlies set with Peru May 31st and the United States on June 4th.

They will face Russia on June 10th to start their Euros campaign, Sweden on the 14th and Greece the 18th to end the group phase.

Real Madrid drops 7 on Valladolid

Filed under: Real Madrid, Spain, Videos

I was watching this game yesterday and Ray Hudson was going mad! The best part of the demolition was the fact that Arjen Robben actually played AND scored AND didn’t fall over every time the camera was on him.

This is why clubs hate National Team games

Rafa Benitez’ rotation policy is gonna take a new hit as Fernando Torres was injured on Spanish duty.  The impressive forward who’s netted 19 times so far this season for Liverpool limped off against France around the 23rd minute mark  in a 1-0 win for Spain.  You have to think he’s a doubt for the game against Chelsea and Champions League final 16 against Inter.

This is how you get a Full Team call up to Spain

He might have a Serbian who played for Red Star Belgrade , but being born in Spain to a Catalan nurse and playing at Barcelona has gotten Bojan Krkic called up to Luis Aragones full squad for next week’s friendly against France. The call up also protects Spain from losing Krkic to Serbia, who have been long in contact with him about representing their country at the highest level even though Krkic represented Spain at the U-17 level.  He is the youngest player to feature in a Champions League game at 17 years, 22 days.

Best buy in soccer?

Fernando Torres

We’ve always been huge fans on Fernando Torres, especially since he killed it at the 2004 Euro’s with Spain. Captaining Athletico Madrid at 19 years old was huge, but the success he’s had at Liverpool has been amazing, with 17 goals so far, averaging 0.65 goals a game. Can you say there was a better buy last summer?

Future Italian National Team forward Guiseppe Rossi scored in the 12th minute of extra time to lift Villareal past Recreativo Huelvo 2-1 in the Copa del Rey.  Yeah, he missed a pen, but no fan will remember that in a week.
