2008 SuperLiga

With the 2007 edition of SuperLiga going to Mexican side Pachuca, the 2008 version has been announced with MLS sides DC United and Houston in Group A with Mexican League Champs Atlante and Chivas Guadalajara joining in.

Group B will consist of Chivas USA and New England for MLS and Santos Laguna and Pachuca representing Mexico.

Kickoff for the tournament will be July 12th and will run through August 5th, but I’m hoping for a Chivas USA v Chivas Guadalajara game.

Another step in global branding

Whoever thought when they were announcing the Pan-Pacific Championship in Hawaii, it would lead to this. MLJ is the official sponsor of the tournament and now holds the exclusive distribution rights to deliver MLS content digitally (think cell phones) in Japan, the first and only country/company to do so outside the United States. With the deal on track through 2009 and three cell carriers down to distribute, MLS and SUM are definitely opening up new territories, making American Soccer a world wide brand.
