Sol Campbell to Notts County?

sol-campbell

I first heard this on BBC News and then saw it on the Daily Star website, and the news is that League 2 side Notts County are prepared to offer 34 year old Sol Campbell £90,000-a-week. What! The article says Campbell is ready to sign a 2 year deal with Notts County and help Sven spearhead the club back to the Premier League. That’s serious coin for any player, let alone for one to play in League 2. Looks like Sven is prepared to back up his ambitious claims.

Sven Goran Eriksson Takes Over Notts County

sven

With a career that has seen him manage some of the biggest clubs in the world, as well as manage England and Mexico, Sven Goran Erikkson is now taking over at League 2 (4th division) club Notts County. He apparently turned down offers from multiple clubs in order to take over as director of football at Notts County, which considers itself the oldest football club in the world. The club has recently been bought by a middle east business consortium and their goal is to return the club to the Premier League in five years. They haven’t been in the top filght since 1992 and this sounds like an ambitious plan for sure.

Fake “IT” Fools Mexico

Filed under: Mexico, Sven Goran Erickson

Sven Goran Eriksson

Comedian and Sven Goran Eriksson look-a-like Derek Williams has put Mexican clubs on alert after fooling Club Universidad Nacional’s Ricardo Ferretti into giving the faker a tour of the facilities.

Williams sent the club fake documents from the Mexican Federation to gain entrance to the club, where Ferretti gave the lookalike a tour of the facilities and access to training.

The best part, Williams has two beautiful women with him the whole time and posed for pictures afterwards.

The Mexican Federation has issued this statement, “At the moment the real Eriksson is in the United States. The person claiming to be him is only a lookalike. This shows a complete lack of respect.”

As for the fooled Ferretti, he took it pretty well. “To be honest I was quite amused,” Mr Ferretti said. “The fake Eriksson told me that he was watching my players ahead of his next call-ups, and I believed him.”

Sparky To City Confirmed - Sven Gets 1 Million Euro To Walk

Filed under: Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Mark Hughes, Sven Goran Erickson

TRIPLE UPDATE -  Looks like ol’ Sparky really likes himself some Brad Friedel.

If this does go down I’m just wondering what’s going to happen to the development of Joe Hart?  Hart’s one of the best English keepers as it is and would be a huge blow to the young keepers future.

And is Friedel worth 3 Million?  As of right now Friedel is the longest serving member at Ewood Park, signing with Blackburn at the end of the 2000 Olympics in Australia after leaving Premiership side Liverpool.

DOUBLE UPDATE - While Sven has gotten his compensation package from City, Blackburn has officially allowed Hughes and City to open negotiations.

It’s going to cost City 5 Million Euros for Sparky.
UPDATE - Seems as though Thaksin Shinawatra really wants a new coach after handing out a Million Euro payoff to Sven.

Must be nice. Must be nice.

Mark Hughes

It’s being reported in both the major newspapers in England that Mark Hughes is heading towards Manchester City after Blackburn has allowed contact with the manager.

If this is true, then you’d have to think that Svenny is going to get the big job in Mexico right? Maybe not!

So who’d get Blackburn if Hughes leaves? Sam Allardyce?

Does Ryan Nelsen and Brad Friedel follow?

Sven to Mexico? - Done Deal For “IT”

Filed under: Mexico, Sven Goran Erickson

UPDATE - Official.

“It” has replaced Hugo “the Dreaded” as the head boss of Mexico after the owners of the 18 first division clubs unanimously voted for the Swede.

Sven to Mexico

Looks like Sven is already pretty fluent in Spanish. One less worry!

sven-to-mexico

So there has been crazy speculation and chatter that Sven, aka “It”, is going to take over the National Team of Mexico. I have read numerous reports about this, but I haven’t really heard anyone ask why. Why would Mexico reach out to Sven? I can’t imagine Sven has a particularly good understanding of the Mexican game, the culture, style of play, etc. I know Sven can speak a number of different languages, but I’m not sure Spanish is one of them. Also, it must be asked, what has Sven really accomplished lately? I know he won a bevy of trophies when he was manager at Lazio back in the day, but what he hasn’t won much since.

Sven To Be Freddy’s 4th Coach? - Quique Sanchez Flores Named

Filed under: Benfica, Sven Goran Erickson

DOUBLE UPDATESpaniard Quique Sanchez Flores has been named Freddy Adu’s new head coach at Benifica, the 4th since Adu’s transfer to the Lisbon giants.

Flores‘ resume includes solid spells at Getafe and Valencia, where Dutchman Ronald Koeman replaced him.  Koeman had coached Benfica just a few years ago.

UPDATE - Looks like Benfica has pulled out of the race to capture Sven as their new (returning) head coach.

Sven

It’s looking as if there’s a chance that Sven Goran Eriksson might be on his way back to SL Benfica, the team he coached twice before from 1982-1984 and then again from 1989-1992.

Freddy’s been at Benfica since the summer of 2007 and has already been coached by Fernando Santos, Jose Antonio Camacho and Ex-player/Interim Chalana, who he’s seen little to no time under.

Eriksson has been known to develop great, young talent and it would be a huge opportunity for the 18 year old to continue to grow. And don’t forget about contacts that Sven has.

Maybe something bigger and better if he does well? What about all that tail that Sven brings around?
