Switzerland’s Captain Alexander Frei is a serious doubt for the debut game of the World Cup against Spain after injuring his right ankle during the training and being transferred in an ambulance to a clinic.

“I hope that he did not injured his ligaments and that there is no fracture. I believe Alex can fly with us (to South Africa), even though he is in pain. He may not be able to play the first game (against Spain), but I will count with him for the rest matches,” his coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said.

Frei injured himself when he was trying to take the ball from his team mate Steve Von Bergen while they were training. He lied on the floor for five minutes before he could go to the changing room to wait for the ambulance.

“He twisted his ankle when he tried to get the ball from his mate,” the coach continued.

Fulham have confirmed the signing of 25 year old Phillipe Senderos after the Switzerland International was available on a Free Transfer following the end of his contract at Arsenal.

Via Guardian

He told the Fulham website: “I’m delighted that I am joining the club during the most successful period in its history.”

The imposing Senderos will add another option for the Fulham manager, Roy Hodgson, at the heart of a defence already shorn of Chris Smalling this summer, while there is also speculation surrounding Brede Hangeland, who has been linked with a move in the opposite direction, to Arsenal.

Hodgson said: “Philippe is a player that I have admired for a very long time, since he captained Switzerland to the Uefa Under-17 Championship in 2002. He is a strong defender who has great aerial presence at both ends of the field and has a superb work ethic, which is a vital component for any team’s success. I am very much looking forward to working with Philippe next season.”

Those efforts eight years ago formed the start of Senderos’s extensive experience of international competitions. He was also part of the Swiss defence which did not concede a goal in the 2006 World Cup, played every minute of their Euro 2008 campaign on home soil and scored twice against Luxembourg as he helped his country reach this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

He will link up with Fulham after that campaign, having moved on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

He said: “I will be looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and of course, Roy Hodgson, a manager I respect very much, shortly after the World Cup. I very much hope that I can contribute over the next few seasons and that the club go on to achieve more success.”

Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos celebrated his Switzerland return on Saturday by heading two early goals which helped beat Luxembourg 3-0 and put his country on the brink of a World Cup place. The Swiss, who top European Group Two with 20 points from nine games, need a point at home to Israel on Wednesday to win the group and make sure of their place in South Africa. They could qualify later on Saturday if Greece and Latvia draw.

Senderos, dropped for the September games against Greece and Latvia because of a lack of match practice at Arsenal, opened the scoring with a looping header following a free kick on the right after six minutes.

Two minutes later he headed another, this time from a Tranquillo Barnetta free kick from the left. The third goal was another header from a set play as midfielder Benjamin Huggel scored at the far post following a corner.

Well, you know how much the crew over at BP_TOW appreciate Skateboard P and TM, so here is a little update on the collab piece between the two and Jacob the Jeweler called “The Simple Things” that was unveiled at Art Basel in Switzerland recently. from NY Mag:

The collaboration between Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams, and Jacob & Co. was finally unveiled at Art Basel, and it sold within twenty minutes for a whopping $2 million.

catch the entire piece and a clip of Pharrell explaining his inspiration and other things after the jump

The piece, called “The Simple Things,” features seven of Pharrell’s favorite items: Johnson’s Baby Lotion, condoms, Doritos, ketchup, a can of Pepsi, a cupcake, and a sneaker, re-created in metal and diamonds. Lots and lots of diamonds. Not exactly what we think of when we think “simple.” High Snobriety has a video featuring Pharrell discussing the work, and the simple things in life that get “overlooked.” “These things are the glue to my personality,” he says.
