Toronto FC @ Real Salt Lake Highlights

Filed under: Highlights, MLS, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC

Last night I headed out to the game with Garrett, Ben and Tonus to check out Monday Night Football at Rice Eccles Stadium.

Rice Eccles Stadium

An absolute bust by Guevara and great finish by Findley for the game winner.

Hate to say it, but there’s a few on TFC that seem to be mailing it in.

World Supporters Cup In Toronto FC

Filed under: All-Star Game, Toronto FC

World Supporters Cup

World Supporter’s Cup is an event we do in the Fan Development department. It’s the 2nd year that it has been done, starting last year.

We’ve got 8 clubs represented and this is West Ham vs Real Madrid. The idea is to bring fans of international teams together with MLS team fans at the All-star game and TFC is the MLS club represented obviously.

This is just one thing that is a part of the All-Star Soccer Jam. As you can see from the pic, BMO Field is in the background. Celebrity soccer-tennis was cancelled earlier due to rain. I was planning on taking the title with Alejandro Moreno as my teammate.

Lima Added And Starting Against TFC

Filed under: San Jose, Toronto FC, Transfer News

Francisco Lima

I’ve always subscribed to the theory that if you’re going to make additions to your team, start them right away and that’s exactly what Frank Yallop and John Doyle are doing today against Toronto FC at BMO Field.

Along with sending allocation money to both Kansas City for Scott Sealy and Toronto FC for the rights to Darren Huckerby, the Earthquakes signed 37 year old Brazilian defensive midfielder Francisco Lima.

Lima’s resume is long and impressive as his stops include Sao Paulo, Lokomotiv Moscow, Bologna FC,  Roma and Brescia.

Final Roster For MLS All-Star Game

Filed under: MLS, Money, Toronto FC

2008 MLS All-Star

The roster for the 2008 MLS All-Star Game at BMO Field in Toronto is set as Stevie Nicol’s men will run out against West Ham United.

MLS All-Star Roster:

Goalkeepers: Pat Onstad (Houston Dynamo), Matt Reis (New England Revolution)

Defenders: Jim Brennan (Toronto FC), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution)

Midfielders: David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Cuauhtémoc Blanco (Chicago Fire), Dwayne De Rosario (Houston Dynamo - Commissioner’s Pick), Christian Gomez (Colorado Rapids), Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

Forwards: Juan Pablo Angel (forward, New York Red Bulls), Edson Buddle (Los Angeles Galaxy - Commissioner’s Pick), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)

Just in case you’re paying attention, that means no Luciano Emilio (DC United - 10 goals), Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew - 8 assists), Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake - 7 assists) or Jon Busch (Chicago Fire - 0.93 Goals Against Average).

It also means that not one player from DC United or Real Salt Lake will be on the field in Toronto.

With Peter Nowak about to name his Olympic Roster later this week, don’t be surprised to hear a few more alternate names pop up as anyone going to Beijing will not be participating in the All-Star Game.

Toronto in for Shola?

Filed under: MLS, Rumors, Toronto FC

shola-ameobi

Word around the transfer campfire is that Toronto FC are trying to get their hands on former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi. Apparently there are a few teams trying to wrangle the Nigerian’s services. Getting young players with global experience would be a step in the right direction for MLS. If this happens, what will Dave from Stoke, aka Dave from Newcastle do? In his famous words, “You don’t give up Ameobi…you manage it…”

Laurent Robert Signs With Toronto

Laurent Robert

Temperamental Frenchman Laurent Robert has been unveiled as Toronto FC’s newest singing. With their history at Newcastle, Toronto boss John Carver thought it would be a good idea to bring in the 32 year old journeyman. Robert is one talented dude, or at least he was, we will have to see if he still has it and how motivated he is. But the question is can a 32 year old with some issues come into a struggling side like Toronto and make a difference? Or will his temperament get the best of him and cause problems in the locker room? At the very least we now get another talented free kick specialist in MLS!

Mad Respect to the Red Patch Boys

Filed under: Columbus Crew, MLS, Toronto FC

The 2007 MLS season was a tough one for Toronto FC and 2008 hasn’t started off much better, but all the respect in the world goes to the Red Patch Boys for driving over 7 hours to get to Columbus Crew Stadium (to watch their team lose 2-nil) and still represent first class.

This is what we need more of, regardless the team.
