Steve Nash + Spurs = ?

Steve Nash

It’s no secret that Steve Nash loves soccer. It’s also no secret that we at The Original Winger are huge fans of the Phoenix Suns point guard. After watching Steve and new Sun Shaq beat the Celtics last night, I came across this story of how Nash is looking to get involved with Tottenham Hotspurs at some point in his life.  Nash is a lifelong Spurs fan who talks about his dream of being involved with the club, but that he wouldn’t do it to make money. From everything I have read and heard about Nash, I actually believe the kid on this. I think Steve Nash might end up being one of the biggest American ambassadors that soccer has. If you read this Steve, give us a shout!

From Clavijo to Juande Ramos?

Alain Nkong, former Colorado Rapid under Fernando Clavijo and world traveler, might be heading to London (more specifically Tottenham) after a very impressive African Nations Cup tournament for Cameroon.  The combative midfielder, who enjoyed plenty of success in Colorado until the continued development of Kyle Beckerman and partner Pablo Mastroeni determined his fate, is seeing renewed interest after scoring the winning goal in the Semi-final match against home favorite Ghana.

Juande Ramos is parading his new signings, Chris Gunther, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Hutton and Gilberto for the press this morning.  Notice the shiny new boots, the four different jerseys and the sponsors dream fulfilled.  My question is where is Keeley?

It’s done and it only took 9 million pound. Jermaine Defoe’s personal terms are in the 50,000 pound a week area and you can just imagine what Harry’s doing to celebrate after signing him for the second time in his career, the first being West Ham back in ‘99.

Woodgate Already Injured?

Filed under: EPL, Jonathan Woodgate, Tottenham

Jonathan Woodgate

Jonathan Woodgate has been one unlucky dude when it comes to injuries.  After being one of the most promising young defenders in England, he has now gone from Real Madrid, to Middlesborough and  now Spurs.  Along the way injuries have plagued him and a cloud has hung over his career because of it.  After Spurs shelled out $15 million for Woody’s services this week, it is being reported that he will be out the next two weeks with a hamstring injury.  After what happened with Darren Anderton at Spurs back in the day, the Tottenham faithful must be praying deja vu doesn’t occur.

Done and dusted

With such prestigious clubs as Leeds United (back when they were good.. come on, you can remember back that far), Newcastle and Real Madrid, you knew it was only a matter of time before Jonathan Woodgate got healthy, fit and focused before he got the hell out of Middlesbrough.  So sorry guys, but a player of this caliber can’t play next to Huth for more than a season.  Heading down M5 for Tottenham and a future partnership with Ledley King, the Spurs website already has it’s newest signing front and center.

Woody to be a Spur?

Filed under: EPL, Jonathan Woodgate, Tottenham

image via World Soccer

After his permanent 7 million Euro signing from Real Madrid just last summer, you wouldn’t think that Gareth Southgate would allow his captain to move on.  Reports have surfaced this morning though that Jonathan Woodgate might be on his way to Tottenham after Boro accepted what is believed to be the exact amount they paid.  Now all that’s left is personal terms for the man who’s career has been frustrated by one injury after another, but has still seen him at the huge clubs like Leeds, Newcastle and Real Madrid.  Remember when Diario Marca voted Woody the worst signing in 2007?

Pascal Chimbonda gives the salute to photogs after the Spurs 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal in the Carling Cup Semi-Final.  Now look for him to give the same to gaffer Juande Ramos and move on to Newcastle.
